Projects
Innovating Curriculum
In 2020, I designed a conceptual framework for teaching world history that my content team at Justice High School has been implementing for the past four years. I created this video after our first year using the framework for the OER Conference for Social Studies 2021. I discuss how organizing the course conceptually instead of chronologically allowed us to design more opportunities for student inquiry.
NCTIES Conference Presentation
I had the opportunity to present alongside one of my classmates at the North Carolina Technology in Education Society Conference (NCTIES) 2024. About 100 educators attended our session called "What the Heck is AI and How Do I Use It?" We had great conversations about the use of artificial intelligence in the classroom.
Augmented Reality Children's book
With a group of classmates in the MEITE Program, I co-authored an augmented reality children's book. We used ChatGPT to help write the story, Adobe Firefly for image generation, Kaedim for 3D characters, and Adobe Aero to combine all the elements into an interactive storytelling experience. The books our class created will be use to research the impact of AR on reading comprehension.
Raleigh Office of Strategy and Innovation
One of my favorite parts of working with The City of Raleigh's Office of Strategy and Innovation was supporting their Innovation Institute in the fall of 2023 and spring of 2024. After the fall iteration, I synthesized and presented data to evaluate the course's impact on developing design thinking skills and mindsets.
Pomona Learning Design
I am currently developing a high school capstone program for my final MEITE project. The program integrates design thinking skills into social studies courses to make learning more relevant and engaging. The program culminates with a course where seniors collaborate in teams to propose solutions to real problems for real businesses and organizations.
Publication
I contributed to a chapter of a book on teaching hard history that was published in 2022. The chapter I co-wrote with colleagues from Justice High School was called "These are Human Beings We're Talking." It discusses a project we designed to teach ninth graders about the Middle Passage. Students read primary and secondary source accounts, analyzed the documents' tone and content, and wrote about their analysis.
